Custom art commissions: how to commission a work made for you

Some works begin with an artist’s idea; others begin with a memory, a place or a plant that matters to someone. A custom commission brings those two points together. It is an original work created within my artistic language and developed through a direct conversation with you.

What is a custom art commission?

It is a unique painting, sculpture or work on paper created for a particular person or space. It is not a reproduction of an existing work. We agree the idea, technique, approximate size and practical conditions before work begins, while leaving enough freedom for the piece to remain authentic.

Why commission a work instead of buying one already made?

A commission may be right when a place, botanical form, landscape or personal memory should be part of the work. It can also be a meaningful gift or a piece designed in dialogue with a specific room.

How the process works

  1. Tell me the idea. A short description, reference images and where the work will live are useful.
  2. I assess its fit. I confirm whether the project belongs within my practice and suggest technique, format and size.
  3. You receive a clear proposal. Scope, budget and estimated timing are agreed before work begins.
  4. The work is created. I develop the piece in the studio and keep the agreed direction in view.
  5. Final presentation. Once completed, the work is prepared carefully for delivery.

What can be commissioned?

Projects usually grow from nature and territory: a flower or seed with personal meaning, a Canarian landscape, a plant from a garden, a remembered place or a particular atmosphere. Paintings and sculptures are both possible when the idea fits my practice.

Budget and timing

Both depend on technique, dimensions and complexity. You receive a clear proposal before deciding, with no commitment at the initial enquiry stage. If the work is intended for a specific date, mention it in the first message so feasibility can be assessed.

What to include in your first message

  • The idea, story or place behind the commission.
  • The preferred technique, if you have one.
  • Approximate dimensions and where it will be displayed.
  • Reference images that help explain the atmosphere.
  • Any relevant date or practical constraint.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a commission cost?

It depends on format, technique and complexity. A clear proposal is agreed before work begins.

Can I request a specific subject?

Yes. The starting point can be a place, plant, memory or image, interpreted through my artistic language.

Do I need a fully formed idea?

No. A simple starting point is enough for the first conversation.
