María Betancor, sculptor and Canary Islands artist
As a sculptor and multidisciplinary artist based in the Canary Islands, I work across contemporary sculpture, graphic art and digital illustration. Nature and territory are central to my research and practice. My work begins with observing the islands’ natural environment and our relationship with it, asking how human actions shape and leave traces on the landscapes we inhabit.
The pieces I create do not use nature only as an aesthetic reference. They offer an artistic reflection on the relationship between people and their surroundings. Through form, material and process, I seek to create spaces for contemplation that invite us to reconsider how we inhabit the world and the impact we leave on a place over time.
This approach feels especially relevant in a context marked by speed, technology and a growing distance from nature. Working from the Canary Islands, I understand my practice as a call to reflection and an invitation to reconnect with landscape and natural processes through a contemporary, attentive perspective.
